Man Standing on Bridge 12-26-2013
On December 26, 2013 at 1046 HRS Sherman County Deputies were dispatched to a report of a man standing on the bridge railing at the 17 milepost on I70. Deputy’s arrived about 2 minutes later and determined that the man was suicidal. Several Deputies’ and a passerby tried to talk the man down from the bridge railing. After 10 minutes the 41 year old man was subdued and taken into custody without incident. Quick response from Sherman County Sheriff’s Deputy’s, Goodland Police Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism and the Good Samaritan are the reason that this situation ended without loss of life. This incident did result in the closure of I70 at mile marker 17, the Goodland exit and K27 at mp 170 for a short period of time.

Construction Site Accident 11-19-2013
Deputy's were dispatched to Edson today for a construction site accident. When Deputy's arrived on scene they provided first aid until emergency medical crews arrived. The construction worker fell approximately 10 feet. He was transported to Goodland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The report reflects that the victim was transported by Northwest Kansas Emergency Medical Services- Sherman County, also on scene was Sherman County City Of Goodland / Sherman Co. Rural Fire Depts.
Medical Call 11-07-2013
At 2:30 PM Sherman County Deputy's were dispatched to the 5400 block of RD 17 for a report of man who had fallen from some scaffolding. Upon arrival deputy's preformed first aid until EMS units arrived. Witnesses on scene told deputy's that the victim had fallen about 8-10 feet. The individual was transported to Goodland Regional Medical Center by NWKS EMS. Members of City Of Goodland / Sherman Co. Rural Fire Depts. were on scene as well to assist.

Flooding has caused I70 to close eastbound lanes between exit 9 and 12. All interstate traffic has been diverted to HWY. 24. We plan extra patrols in that area to control the extra traffic. Lane closure is expected to last up to 7 days. Please plan your travel plans accordingly.
